"Writing for YOU!"

Mr. Sandman

A writing prompt about how we sleep and wake up, also a YouTube video of the Chordettes singing “Mr. Sandman.” caused me to write this blog.  I remember this song from my teen-aged years. It has little to do with how well we sleep and wake refreshed. It is a young woman’s desire for Mr. Sandman to bring her a hunk of a man in a dream.

That seems kind of silly to me, for why does she just want a man in her dreams? I’m married now, but when I was single and dating it was important for me to have a real live man, someone to take me places, someone to kiss goodnight. I wrote a poem about it and insert it here.

MEN, WHERE ARE YOU?

By JGKipp

And God said, “I’ll make me a man.”

It isn’t quite so easy, however

For the modern woman

To find love

Companionship

Someone to take her places.

What is the answer?

What was the question?

Where have all the young men gone?

I wish I knew,

I’d go there, too

Back to the Mr. Sandman Prompt:

Two major issues keep me from falling asleep most nights;

1)  Random, Racing Thoughts

2) Restless Legs Syndrome

I don’t have any problem falling asleep n my comfy recliner while watching a Netflix movie or a pre-recorded TV show. The movie or show may be very interesting and something I want to see; however, if I am tired enough, off to slumber I go.

If I decide to go to bed, a different scenario takes place. I take a bath, brush my teeth and put lotion all over my body, which may cause the next part. It seem unlikely to me for a bath at night is designed to be relaxing.

When I finally draw back the comforter and sheet, settle my head on the pillow, say my prayer, take a few deep breaths and think sleep is right around the corner.

All of a sudden, BOING! My eyes and mind are wide awake, no matter what the hour. This happens not all the time, but regularly enough to have me consult the doctor for help. Not to worry, I will tie this in after explaining  the second issue.

Restless Legs Syndrome, an insidious, annoying condition probably caused by crossed nerves. When I am relaxed or sometimes just sitting comfortably or at a concert or church service, my legs do an automatic TWITCH! I capitalized it because the movement is sudden and uncontrollable. This condition is helped for me by a prescription medication called Mirapex.

My doctor, a family practice D. O. is from Texas, compassionate, helpful, Christian gentleman. He is very helpful, listens patiently to my issues and provides the help needed for the situation. After taking a 1 milligram tablet, it is “Lights Out!” for me. Most nights, I awaken to use the bathroom  then go immediately back to sleep when I return to bed.

PLEASANT DREAMS TO ALL!
