Most folks learn (or not learn) grammar in grade school. Grammar is repeated throughout the school experience till graduation day. English grammar is not hard, just complicated because of the melting pot that is the United States of America. Our sentence structure, word derivatives and word meanings come basically from British English, home country of most of the Founding Fathers.
People from various countries began arriving in the U. S. and added their own unique blend of words and word meanings. Many of these words were Anglicized or made our own with some slight modifications.
Beginning with a basic sentence:
My name is _________. Note the capital letter to begin the sentence and the period at the end of the sentence.
What is your name? When a question is asked, a question mark is at the end of the sentence.
Use short sentences when speaking or writing. More people will be able to follow and understand better what they are hearing or reading.
Avoid long complicated words; they tend to be confusing, unless their use is immediately followed with a definition.
